When summer rolls around, the idea of re-dressing your wardrobe is almost as commonplace as getting a haircut.
But why is that?
The answers are all too familiar, but here are a few key tips that will help you get the look of your dreams in style.
First, don’t go overboard with your style choices.
Most of us will be at the point where we are wearing the same things over and over again.
There’s no point in getting a new pair of pants every week, or getting a coat every summer.
You can still change your style, but you’ll have to spend a bit more time finding the right pieces.
If you can’t go to the beach or buy new clothes for the summer, don’s first try a more conservative approach.
Try to get the basic pieces that will work for you and stick with them.
Try not to overdo it.
“The idea is to make the whole thing more comfortable and less bulky,” says Sarah.
“It might sound like a silly thing to do, but when you’re in the heat you don’t want your body to feel heavy or bulky, so you need to be comfortable and look good.
For example, if you’ve worn a classic t-shirt for the past year or two, you’ll need to ditch the ones that are too baggy and add something more tailored to suit the seasons. “
And if you want to keep that classic look, you have to have the right clothes.”
For example, if you’ve worn a classic t-shirt for the past year or two, you’ll need to ditch the ones that are too baggy and add something more tailored to suit the seasons.
“You can’t just wear jeans and a t-up or a tee,” says Rachel.
“I’ve had to find things like the tee shirt or khaki shorts that are more fitted and I think that’s important.
And then I also think it’s important to have a few different styles of socks to mix things up.
So it’s really important to find something that suits your body type.”
Second, you should also make a point of keeping your favourite styles.
“We like to wear vintage style and denim, and that’s one of my favourites,” says Sara.
I think you should go for something that’s more contemporary and has a bit less character.””
That said, I don’t think you have the time or the energy to go out and buy a vintage pair of trousers every time you get a new season.
I think you should go for something that’s more contemporary and has a bit less character.”
Try looking for clothing with a range of colours and prints to make it more contemporary.
“When you’re shopping for clothing, try and find clothes that match the season,” says Stephanie.
“Try and find the colours that are flattering and the prints that are practical.”
Third, if your favourite style isn’t quite right, try to make an effort to find new clothes that fit your own style.
“Make sure you go to different stores and see what is popular in that area,” says Rebecca.
“So, for example, you could go to Woolworths and see if they carry denim.
Or, if not, you can go to a big department store like H&M and find a denim dress or denim skirt.
You may be surprised at how popular a particular style of jeans is.
And if you don’ t have a great fit, maybe try something that has a wider leg or has a leg that’s shorter than the knee.
It might help you find something.”
Finally, you might want to get a few things to help you blend in with the crowds.
“Sometimes when people say ‘cool’, they mean ‘cool, fashionable, fashionable’,” says Sarah, “so if you’re really in the mood for something trendy, go to another store and pick up something like a bag or purse.
And, of course, make sure you don t look too casual, because you don oughta look like youre in a club.”
Finally you can always add more pieces to your wardrobe.
“For example,” says Rae, “try finding something that fits in the same pocket as a hoodie or sweater, and maybe a belt or a shirt that you wear underneath it.
You might not be wearing a hooded top or hooded jacket, but maybe a long sleeve t-shirts, or a belt with a long leg.”
And finally, if all else fails, go for a pair of boots.
“Boots are a great way to make yourself stand out from the crowd,” says Hannah.
“They give you a little bit of extra character and add a bit to your look.”
